My name is Debra D'Annunzio I am fourth generation Italian and the author of Liverpool's Italian families.
I am a local historian and spent 15 years at BBC Radio Merseyside talking all things nostalgic. I believe our own personal stories deserve to be heard and  documented to enable future generations to understand their past too.
The D'Annunzio/Mancini family can be traced back to the 11th century to a small village called Atina in the province of Frosinone, which is in the region of Lazio Italy.
My family's story starts In the summer of 1878 when Michele D'Annunzio, his wife Fortunata (Mancini) and their four children boarded the SS Italia in Naples and along with their very good friends the Volantes came to Liverpool settling in Gerard Street and the heart of Liverpool's Italian Quarter.

As a child I listened to my Grandmother's stories about the streets around Scotland Road, the tales
of hardships, celebrations and its people. I feared not only my family's story but others too would be lost with time, so i decided to write a book capturing their lives in Liverpool's Little Italy, and it is to those pioneering and brave ancestors I dedicate my work to. ALLA FAMIGLIA
